Interesting topic. Back when I was in FL is used 80 meter quad loop arrays and never had an issue with rain static. The loops were all from insulated wire. I wonder if coating the elements with liquid electrical tape or something similar would do the trick. It might be easy enough to do to just the driven element, since I believe that is the main source of the QRN.
