Agree re boat painting, expensive and I'm told hard to work with, environment is critical. Particularly Imron, particularly in my way back boating years. Maybe easier now.

My polyurethane was standard single part on a Windsurfer mast. It all flaked off. Prepped with acetone. I think adherence matters a lot on the resin in the surface - epoxy, polyester, polyvinyl, gel coat etc. some need primer coats IIRC.

Grant,

Did you use a single part polyurethane or a two part product? Huge night and day difference between the chemistries. I’m sitting in a marina right now where at least 95% of the fiberglass boats with paint on them are painted with two part polys. It’s practically a world standard. Same with aircraft. Two part polys pretty much own the market.

Lot’s of cheaper options of course.

What didn't work for me was polyurethane. Boat paint is often
polyurethane and very expensive.

I do have some FG poles from an estate that are painted with plain latex
exterior and they look great.  Some Rustoleum spray paints say they
adhere to plastic, so they would be my other choice. I have had great
success with their oil based paints on steel.

I have a Diamond X50NA (2m/70cm) that I hope to put up before the snow flies here in N. Illinois.  Just wondering if it is recommended to paint fiberglass antennas to protect from UV/Sun damage?

If so what kind of paint is recommended?
