I generally use 4 inches overlap for 2 inch diameter and 2 inches for an
inch and smaller.  If your sections are more than six feet in length, I
would consider adding an inch of overlap.  This is not based on any
engineering calculation, but rather my experience over the past 40 years.

I recently bought some J_K antennas and that is about what they use.  They
are beautifully designed.
