My experience with off brand UHF connectors has not been all that
great. The problem I have run into has to do with machining the
threads. Off brand males don't thread onto real Amphenol females
correctly or vice versa. But Amphenol isn't perfect either. A year
or two ago I had a defective Amphenol PL259. The threaded sleeve's
retainer collar wasn't much there so when threading it onto a jack the
sleeve kept going and pulled off the soldered body of the connector.
This is exactly the reason for my question, that all of these
self-proclaimed experts have ignored. Some years ago, like a lot of
companies seeking to establish monopolies on certain products, bought up
several competitors and applied variations of their "brand" to them. One
of them is "Amphenol Connex," which is obviously junk. But there are
three others I've seen. What I asked, that started this thread, is "What
is REAL Amphenol," and I still haven't received an answer, just a lot of
"I'm an expert, and I do fine buying stuff on ebay."
I've also been burned with Amphenol-branded connectors from main-line
vendors with maybe two 83-1SP out of 100 that are short of threads.
Rather than stamped labels, they are printed. This was maybe 8 years
ago. I don't buy ones-twosy, I buy 100 pc lots, sharing with club
members, and I've done this multiple times over 15 years, always from
major vendors like Allied.
So I would appreciate it if folks would stop BSing, and answer the
question I asked!
