Are you sure you don't have the MULTI PORT command in your config file?

That does seem low. On my computer, with 551K free, firing up TR shows
100,656 free bytes (a fresh run at the CQ WW contest).
What contest are you running? Do you have any QSOs logged? Did you
do anything after starting the program?
