Actually Tree and I tried this when he was here last summer. The results
were mixed. We got the computer and radios talking on one serial port, but
at present there is no safeguard against collisions, of which there were
plenty. So it worked at times and didn't work at other times. Tree was
just happy the program didn't stop the process because two radios were
assigned to the same port.
I was using two Icom 746PROs - which are independently addressable.
It would be very slick to be able to do SO2R with an old laptop that has one
serial port and one parallel port. Very cool indeed. With two little HF
radios, that would be a SO2R contest dxpedition in a carry-on (except for
the 40 meter beam).
To get him to work out the software I should offer to trade daughters with
Tree; his is 13 and mine is 9. There are days I know he'd consider it :)
