I don't see why everyone is so upset. No need to get upset. Just accept the
facts or change the rules. We can't change the science of radio, so it has to
be rules that change if that is what is wanted.
Here are some nearly undeniable facts that everyone may as well accept to be
competitive in any VHF/UHF contest on a national level.
1) You gotta be willing to sink some real money into your setup. (rigs,
antennas, transverters, amps, feedline, towers, etc don't come cheap)
2) You better live at a good location or have access to one. (real estate is
expensive especially hilltops and mountaintops or you better have a friend that
owns one and it can't be restricted)
3) You better have more bands than your competition (refer to fact # 1) (it's
all about the bands and bands means money money money)
4) You better have weekends off or some vacation time to burn because these
contests are always on the weekend and they are very long (why not just 24
hours like Field Day or maybe 12 hours)
5) You better live in/near or rove through the major population areas of New
England or So Cal, or grid circle/pack rover/have a captive rover (one, the
other or all) (rural areas out of the reach of ground wave of the major
populations centers don't have a snowball's chance)
6) If you are not doing the above, you better be in direct connection with the
propagation gods or schedule your astronaut ham buddies to pitch out some well
timed sand out of the shuttle to generate you some major MS.
I am just waiting until VE stations get together with monster 10 band rover dog
sleds and go pack roving/grid circling the North Pole and put all us US
stations to shame. They could be done in about 15 minutes while shooting for
the billion point mark.
What else can we gripe about now? How about monopolization the call
frequencies!!!!
73 guys and I hope you got a good laugh and it made you think...Rusty NE4ME
