Just some thoughts on the conversion. All of the new modules are FET and
don't use 8v for bias, they use 5v so you need to add a regulator to bring
the 8v down to 5v. The FET units also take less drive so you might need an
attenuator. The good news is they will put out more so you might see 20w !!!

One of my 736's I install a new 70cm module and it worked out fine after
doing the above changes.
