I have had several requests for information on compression, etc.

FIRST I was using Writelog for logging and recording.
Under TOOLS : SOUND BOARD OPTIONS: SELECT WAVE FILE COMPRESSION
I chose
Format: MPEG Layer-3
attributes:24 kBit/s. 11,025 Hz, Stereo 3KB/s

I suspect that this may use a fair amount of computer power, so I networked
to my "internet" computer, which happens to have my headphones paralleled
into its sound card. (I had been
using REcall PRO to record for a while).
I run Writelog on the "internet" computer and can display some additional
screens, plus I have
a full back up of the contest log on a separate computer.
My Writelog computer is just a Cyrix 200 MHz box fairly barebones with an
ethernet card and
standard Windows networking. All operating is done from one computer, but
no recording is
done on that one. With a big enough computer I guess you can do it all with
one box, but
not sure.
It is really nice to be able to point and shoot on any contact and listen to
it. I also was able to
clip (used other software; however, the Writelog package may provide editing
software???) out
QSOs and send them to the guys I worked on several occasions, educational,
fun and potentially
profitable, if someone really makes a fool of himslf while on "my"
frequency.

Looks like the weekend took about 398M of disk space, the quality is just
fine. I have noticed
that things I missed in the contest (I hear myself asking for repeats )
often are easy to hear in
the recording... I've discussed this with others (and other MPEG software
users), and am not
sure what is up...heat of battle, or some reduction of noise in the
recordings.
