I finally broke down and decided to upgrade from Win98SE to XP. So, I
purchased (3) new HP 2250 mini towers and began the project.

All was going well until........it was sound board / DVK time.

For a simple 'echo mic' the onboard sound board slightly distorted audio
compared to the excellent audio from the old boards in the 98SE systems.
The levels for F1 - F10 recordings using the DVK were fine, just distorted.
Not a problem - I had (3) Creative Audio Sound Blaster cards from the old
computers. I disabled the onboard sound board - installed the Sound
Blaster - loaded the drivers and 'thought' all was well. The audio levels
were great and the signal quality was without distortion when all I was
doing was 'echo mic'. Then it was time to record the messages for this
weekend's NAQP-SSB. When I recorded anything F1 - F10 it would appear to
record, but when trying to play it back the audio would be very very low.
On occasion and one of the F-keys would be so much louder than the gain
settings 'should' allow for. This was totally random. One time it could
be F1, another F9. Sometimes they all would be very VERY low audio.

Problem - great audio with "echo mic" - DVK does not work.

Suggestions ? ?

I tried another 'known good' Creative Audio board as well as one of the
other PCI slots. Same result.

No big hurry - right now - as the old Win98SE computer is back on-line for
NAQP-SSB !!!
