I key an external relay circuit using PTT from the radio to key my two
Ameritron AL80B amplifiers. Not sure if this is proper or
not, but I've been doing it for years with no problems. I don't remember the
exact circuit I used but it's built into a little
Radio Shack box. I think it's just a transistor, diode, resistor and relay. I
have three RCA jacks in the box labeled "RELAY",
"PTT", and "+12V". PTT from the radio keys the transistor and relay in the
box. The relay goes to ground when keyed and the
"RELAY" output goes to the relay input of the amplifier. I get +12 volts DC
from the jack on the Ameritron amplifier to power the
relay circuit in the box.

Hi all,

I contacted Yaesu's Tech help center for the problem am

Having, they told me:"I can't use the CAT interface and an Ameritron Amplifier
at the same time". To use the Ameritron I have to
disconnect the CAT cable and hook the RELAY plug only to the Amplifier Without
the ALC plug, or get the VL-1000 solid state

Amplifier and follow the instructions on page 10 of the manual.

I spent hours reading the manual, there is no Menu to activate the RELAY like
the Kenwood rigs.

For the time being, I'll be using the rig bare foot with the CAT interface.

Thank you all for trying to help. Learn something every day!
