In Win 8.1 right click on the Start button then click on Search. Type WL
that will get to Sound Board Mixer Control. You can change the default
sound card there.

I've done this and, testing via the WriteLog CW decoder, still don't have
any audio coming into the decoder. I've tested with values of n=0, 1 or 2.
Am I on the right track?
Does it matter where the [WISound] entries go in the writelog.ini file?
If it makes a difference, I am using WriteLog v11.17E, and I am editing the
writelog.ini file located in c:\Windows.

Here's the Asus unit Larry recommends. My neighbor, N6NUL, bought one and
loaned it to me the check out. So far I've only looked at WSJT decoding,
