On the headphone audio thing, I've found the MP's audio level to be quite
satisfactory once you turn up the pots under the top cover.

However, I just sent my older one back for repair (fried something in the
low pass filter apparently). The tech called me today to give me an update
and said he went ahead and installed the headphone amp mod for me as well as
some other minor things.

Someone had indicated that they were told this mod was unauthorized and would
void the warranty. Obviously, this is not the case...at least in the US!

If anyone is interested, they just shipped my MP back today with a total
in factory repair time of 1 week (under warranty), as promised.

Assuming that the thing works when I get it back, I give their service
department a B+ for prompt and courteous service!

BTW, I think the filter failure was my fault. I was in the habit of leaving
my lowband RX antennas connected on the RX ant port, so it may have taken a
minor hit. I'm going to stick a couple ICE RX limiter/arrestors in the
RX line of my radios for insurance.
