Thomas,
VR2005 is the S Meter zero adjustment
I would just disconnect any antennas and use it to set the meter to 0

Subject: [Yaesu] FT990 VR2005 S Meter Adjustment
Hello To All,
I used to own an FT-990 plus the service manual too but have long ago
sold the rig. I received the email attached below from John WB5YVS. He
accidentally
changed the S meter setting adjustment for VR2005 under the trap door on
the top of the rig. Can anyone advise just what this setting does to the S
meter circuit, how critical it is and how to get the adjustment back to
where it should be?!

Thanks Thomas for the quick reply. Yesterday I was adjusting the
CW volume control on my Yaesu, I got distracted and noticed
that I was in the wrong pot, I was in VR 2005 on the next board,
I returned it as close to where I thought it should be. I'm really
a lid when it comes to the solid state rigs. I traced the VR2005
on the schematic, and it looks like it is the S Meter circuit, I hope.
What is the VR2005 and what do you think, and if its out of alignment
can I fix it with limited equipment.
I live in a rural area, the closest tech. are in Dallas and that's
quite a trip. I operate 40 meters. mostly and the bands have been so
bad today that I don't trust getting on and asking how do I sound, the
S-Meter does look light.
If you can help, I would be grateful.
