There is an extremely small reed relay, I believe, on the lo-pass filter
board.  The transmitter gets switched by a pin diode.  Rarely do I hear of
them going bad by getting intermittant.  They tend to stick closed, then
burn up the front-end next time you transmitt.  I suppose it could.  Try
switching bandwidth and see if a filter socket is bad first.  Good
