I don’t own either but let me say something
I have been a ham since 63
Even the stuff back then was great for what it was
Our stuff just keeps getting better abs better ,for convince features in my
opinion
I have just bought a 3k a year ago ,nice radio .i love that u can open up ssb
audio both Smith and rx the scope u can have it .its got a ton of features and
u have to keep the manual near u
I own an ft1000 a 990 YAESU a 102 and my favorite is a drake tr7 that radio was
way ahead of its time
If u are in a ssb contest and a guy is 2kc from u at 40 over he ain’t going
away
If u are in a cw contest and a guy is 1kc and 40 over and ur after a weak one
the guy 40 over is going away if u know how to work the rf gain and selectivity
controls ,I couldn’t believe my ears in the last cw contest it’s really cool
what a 3k can do
I forgot to mention I have an old hammarlund hq170ac this old box hears
everything the other ones do except on 20 15 and 10 but these bands are going
to dead for years
If u have the dough for one of those new YAESUs go ahead a buy one I have e the
dough but ,
I’m waiting for the 5k to drop in price om I. A YAESU guy just like em I guess
Try a drake tr7a in ur ham career their are a few guys who make them better
than new ,go fiqure I bought one at a steel because the ham said it was broken
rx it wasn’t
They are extremely reliable the alignments stay put for 30 years average
But the hunt could be hard to find one but it’s worth the wait
Or a 100 percent ft1000d that’s a real fine rig no menus 2 rx look at hro they
usually have used ones and if u don’t like ie within 30 days they will take it
back
Or for 1400 bucks a 3k
