Comments:
Thanks to W6RN for letting me use "The Farm" station in Watsonville. The
station played flawlessly. However, results here are down from my last
CQP effort (an expedition). I did have a constant S7+ noise level to the
north and east all weekend, and I'm certain that was a contributing factor.
I rechecked the noise level as soon as I got back to Saratoga, and it was
<S1. Thus I don't think the problem was general atmospheric noise as much
as induced by town of Watsonville. Also, my sense is that the activity
level
was down from recent years, though that's hard to measure. Maybe the recent
trend toward every single state having its own state QSO party has turned
people off to state QSO parties in general?
One other factor in the lower score was a major focus on pursuit of golden
log status. If there was any doubt at all, I made the other station confirm
my understanding of his call and report. If I couldn't get that
confirmation,
I didn't log the contact. Thus it will be interesting to see the results of
our new and improved log checking. If that log checking doesn't show the
extra effort was justified, then next time I'll use a "more aggressive"
strategy in CQP!
By the way, CT 9.41 actually said I had 105 multipliers. It's counting all
counties as multipliers as well as all states and provinces. I guess these
are PA QSO party rules. But counter to that, I notice it also refuses to
flag my last state multiplier in the log, even though it counted it in the
score computation. Since everybody else seems to be having the same problem
(but not always noticing it), I think we're going to see some fairly bizarre
claimed scores!
