Good contest from Ct this time. I did do a double take on the calendar to make
sure it was really June. Good tropo on 2 meters and up, and very few Es openings
on 6 made it feel more like the Sept contest, hi! We had some very scattered Es
on Saturday afternoon and some more midday on Sunday. Never had a solid opening
that I caught. Maybe 40-50 q's on 6 meter Es, in 20 or so grids. Scatter seemed
good when I tried, though I didn't try much since I try to stay off 6 and focus
on the other bands in June when there isn't a strong opening.Need to balance the
strategy to spend time on 2 meters and up so when /if there is a 6 meter opening
I can focus on that and hope that I haven't used up the neighborhood good will.
This strategy hasn't worked too well the last few June contests as 6 meters
never really opened up! Maybe next June......

Great tropo Saturday night was a lot of fun. Worked W3IY/R in FM26 and FM27 up
through 10 ghz. In FM27 Bill was 40 over on 10 ghz. Full pin up through 3.4 ghz.
Worked 6 stations in FM14 - never knew there was anyone else on there except
for W4FSO. Worked Clint, W1LP/MM in FM25,24 and 23. Sometime after midnite I
moved the beam to the West and heard NJ0U in EN71. Hadn't realized the band was
open to the West. Worked about 7 or 8 q's in the midwest, as far as K9KHW in
EN63. At the same time, AA4ZZ in EM96 started coming in s9+. Didn't know where
to point the beam - down the coast, to the west, or sw toward the EM grids. Nice
problem to have, hi! The band was open to VE1 too as the VE1SMU beacons were
very loud. Never found anyone up there to work though. The opening lasted till
Sunday morning as I could still hear W4FSO around 10 am. After that conditions
seemed to revert to normal , though they seemed down to the Northeast. Never
worked any FN5X grids - believe that's the first time ever in 14 years from this
qth. The grid totals on 222 and up were helped a great deal by the enhancement,
but offset somewhat by many "regular" grids missed (FM28,17,Fn51,53,54,55,34,03
etc. ).
Last comment is about the rovers. This contest marked an all time high for me
in rover q's. Hats off to W3IY, ND3F, N2JMH, VE3NPB, N1MU, WA2IID, K1DS/N1XKT
and many others. I haven't counted, but would guess they might have made up 15%
or so of my q's. Without them the contest wouldn't be nearly as much fun. Tnx
guys!

Overall score was a new record for me. To have a shot at W5ZN's all time record
I would need a combination of tropo on 2 meters and and up , and a few hours of
good Es on 6. You would expect the Es would be the easier of the 2. However, in
both 1999 and this year the tropo was there, but the Es were not. I was hoping
right up to the end for that one good 2 hour opening! Next time! Cu, Jeff
