Comments:
A busy work schedule meant no chance of doing All Band, however there was time
to operate one of the low bands. Last year I chose SB/80m with a winning score,
so SB/40m seemed like a good idea.
Furthermore, for the month of June I had the option of using the special Jubilee
prefix ZC40, (that's FOUR ZERO (not four oscar!))
40m was in outstanding shape. The K-index was low and the solar flux too.
But it was a real pity that more stations didn't check-out 40m.
I guess the fact that 40m has the same points value as 20m/15m made it less
productive when those 2 other bands were open. Also, with 80m/160m QSOs worth
more points, I feel 40m is sometimes neglected in this contest.
I was delighted to work the nice mults of ZS, CN, P4 and VP5. VP5/K9DX was a
huge signal on 40m around his sunset both days.
Rather dissapointingly I did not hear a single VK or ZL on 40m the entire
weekend. Also no GW or GI - lots of easy European mults were missing from 40m.
For as long as I can remember, I worked all my multipliers on Day 1. But that's
not to say I didn't hear juicy stuff the second day. In fact the biggest one I
missed was KH6ND at about 1630z. This was 30 mins BEFORE my sunset, and 30 mins
AFTER his sunrise - full daylight at both ends of the path! Sadly, despite my
calls he could not hear me.
Also on Day 2 I heard E21EIC for long periods, but again I couldn't pick up the
Thailand mult. And with 5 minutes of the contest remaining AY5EE pops up on 40m,
but can't read me. He thinks my call is ZC4BS, but we run out of time to
complete the QSO and earn another mult.
I noticed a high number of dupes, and this may have been caused by the unusual
ZC Forty prefix.
Youngest op. worked was aged 15 and the oldest was 83. I only remember working 1
YL who was from Yugoslavia, I think.
