Comments:
Last year I started on 10 mtrs and had a pretty good 2 hours to start the
contest. So I got on 10 and started working a string of people before the
contest even started. Then when 2100 came around I couldn't buy a contact. I
quickly switched to 15 and 18 Qs later I'm heading to 40. Now here it is 50
minutes into the contest and I have 40 Qs. I made 12 more on 40 during the last
10 minutes of the first hour and salvaged 52 Qs in the first hour. Now I'm not
going to bore you with a hour-by-hour run down but I did manage to beat last
years score. Some interesting things though: on 10 mtrs, I had several stations
in the midwest comment that I was "bone crushing loud" so you figure that you
can get a run going when you hear that. Nothing doing on 15 or 10 from VA this
year. I seem to remember during previous SS during low sunspots years that I
would avoid 10 and 15 completely and I think its moving that way again. Best
hour was 107 on 20 meters and also longest run was 213 Qs in 2 hours on 20 (the
same freq in fact without moving). The second radio helped with 40 Qs during
Sunday. I have to start using it more rather than just hitting the DVK button
on the run radio and staring off into space. This was the easiest sweep ever.
Went to bed at 0845Z with 78 and needing NL and MAR. I worked both of them
early Sunday morning. Thanks to the VE/VY guys for making the dificult mults
easy this time. I saw a spot for Jay VY1JA, QSYed to his freq and worked him on
the first call. It didn't even sound like anyone else was calling. Quite a

P.S. I hope the modest increase in my score will be enough to keep me in the SO
Unlimited Top Ten but I'm not sure as I heard alot of big "U" numbers out there.
The category seems to be gaining popularity.
