Comments:
Conditions seemed to be pretty good. Lots of great DX on, most was very easy to
work! I decided at the last minute to put up a 3ele yagi fixed south and another
2ele on EU. I live on a college campus and have approx. 1000 students who live
within 200 yards of me! Elaborate antennas are out of the question.
The purpose of the 3ele south was to combat the frustration I always feel with
bottomless pileups to slow working South American stations. I didnt want to put
the 3ele on Europe in case the band sucked. The 3ele antenna helped a little
bit. I still missed PJ2T, V44 and V31 despite calling and calling. 100 watts
can be frustrating. Nevertheless the extra hardware was useful. I worked more
Florida stations than I could every imagine. The equipment:
Yaesu FT-1000MP Mk-V x 2
WX0B SO2R Master
3ele fixed south at 36'
2ele mini Yagi at EU at 20' (SuperAntenna's Minibeam) with rope directional
system
Rectangular Loop at 30'
5/8 Vert at 50'
Both radios had the ability to access all the antennas. SO2R mixed mode is a
bizarre ride. For some reason, I do better with CW in my left ear? Who knows.
Obviously, I could have turned on the afterburners (Quadra es Al-811H)but
decided against it- Without great antennas..no chance to compete in HP mixed
mode..
Thanks for all the QSO's
