Comments:

Due to some family issues, I have not done a serious contest for a while.
Although the NAQP is a terrific contest which has both great operators and
casual guys, lasts 12 hours, and is great practice experience for SO2R, I
dreaded this contest, was nervous before it, was tired during it because I
woke at 5 AM Saturday morning and could not get rested, and had a hard time
dealing with it even after it started. But my results were better than
last year, and seemed pretty good although I have no results from 3830 yet. My
gut feeling is that I'll move up a bit in the rankings.

I worked the SO2R hard, and NA shows that I made 259 alternate radio QSOs out of
the 920 total. I moved 38 stations successfully to at least one
additional band

Conditions were superb. Ten meters stayed open for at least six hours,
and 80/160 were quiet. A beverage was very helpful on 160, but I used the
transmit antenna on 80.

Changes from last year helped:

1. Better 160 meter antenna. I was able to CQ on 160 and get answers.
The last hour was an 83 hour while CQing on 80 and S&Ping on 160 half the time,
and the reverse the other half of the time. I got 9 mults on 80 and
12 mults on 160 the last hour!

2. I took the off time better; one hour in the daylight (2 half hour
periods) and one hour in the night time (one 1 hour stretch to watch the
Eagles-Falcons game for a bit). I saved the entire final two and a half
hour portion of the contest and used those primo hours on 80 and 160 (plus some
40) as last year, it was clear that I didn't spend anough time on 80 and 160 and
got killed in mults on those bands.

3. I had three hours of over 100 QSOs/hour and one 99er.

73,

Jim
