Comments:
I'm feeling a little sad and nostalgic. My wife and I moved here in 1988, and
this might have been my last CQWW from here (and last SS two weeks ago). Back
then I was pretty much a VHF contester (W2CRS) and occasional HF QRPer with
medioce CW skills. Well, some things don't change :-). I choose this hilltop
location for VHF, but lack of VHF activity and the ability to experiment with
antennas on 5 acres made me into an HF contester. This month was the first
time all the monobanders (single monobanders on 4 different towers plus a
Hytower, 80M delta loop, and 160M 1/4 wl vertical) were working and rotatable,
so I decided to put in a competitive effort timewise, which seems to get harder
every year. If we can sell the house, we'll move to a milder climate next year,
which probably means downsizing to a small tribander, a Hytower, and VHF/UHF
antennas.
Conditions this weekend were unexpectantly good.
Charlie, N9CO, and I will operate the ARRL 160M test in December (if my long
disused Ten Tec amp is working..), And Charlie will probably operate the 10M
test.
