Comments:
I knew going into this that I was going to have to miss at least 5 hours of
prime time on Sunday morning, so that kind of sapped my motivation. Curiously,
15 minutes before I had to QRT at 1345Z, the band went absolutely flat to EU.
Where just a minute before the Europeans were booming in here, suddenly I found
myself struggling to pull F5IN out of the noise...and he was the only EU station
I could hear. When I came back about 1900Z, conditions were terrible...and
stayed that way the rest of the day. And I thought Saturday was bad! One
curious phenomena this weekend were the crazy paths signals were taking. It was
so bizarre that I even went out once to see if my beam had slipped on the mast,
since the normal headings weren't working at all.
Lessons learned: (1) No more SSB. I really do not enjoy it and should leave
it for the people who do. (2) Next time, use the amp. LP is no fun, even if I
did save on my power & light bill this weekend. Actually, I had done HP/CW the
past 2 years and decided to do something different this year. That was a
mistake.
