Comments:
This was my first attempt at working the entire contest. I worked very nearly
100 percent search and pounce and I had lots of fun. Propogation did not seem
favorable. I guess I missed prime time on 40 meters, very few stations were
there--except for lots of broadcasters. Ugggh! I swept the band early, and it
was open, just no stations there. All still up on 15 and 20 meters I guess.
Sounded like there was lots of activity on 160, but I don't have anything that
loads up there.
This is a great contest format--the 100 watt limit helps level the playing field
for the casual guys. I had intended to call CQ more to work on those
logging/pile-up skills, but I generally was having too much fun hunting
stations.
Station setup:
rig: FT-920
This week's antennas:
160 nuthin'--(yet!)
80 meter folded dipole@ 50 feet
40 meter inverted vee@ 45 feet
20 meter wire yagi-fixed west@ 35 feet
- and a rectangular loop @ 45 feet (facing NE and Europe)
15 meter sloping dipole@ 25 feet
10 meter wire moxon-fixed west @ 35 feet
The moxon, 15 meter dipole and reflector for the 20 meter wire yagi were all
installed for the contest. I tend to move stuff around quite a bit....and EZNEC
shows a lot less interactions than you might expect.
Can't wait to try again. My next goal is 500 QSO's.
