This contest was lots of fun. Thanks to all the DX with good and patient
ears.
Its tough for me to compete with "real" contest stations, I have only 100 watts
and wire antennas. I had a new 10 meter wire moxon up at decent height, fixed
towards Europe--and not a peep! I made most of the 19 10-meter contacts off the
back of the antenna towards the Carribean and Central America. Such is
propagation.
15 meters was fun because of a last minute antenna project. On Friday morning I
decided to put up a rectangular loop (8'x16'4"-->244cm by 732cm for y'all DX).
This antenna played very well into Central Europe, and has a nice 50 ohm
feedpoint. It requires only one tall support, so its even easier to hoist than
a wire dipole. The top is made of an 8 foot length of angle aluminum, sides and
bottom any available wire. This antenna was much better than using my 40-meter
dipole on 15. I am very happy with this loop, but I sure wish I had a stack of
yagi's!
It was impossible for me to call CQ successfully--all QSO's but one were S&P.
Still, I had loads of squeaky SSB fun.
