CT VER 10
ANTS: 160 INVERTED L 40' VERTICAL X 32 RADIALS
80 DIPOLE @ 40'
40 2 ELEMENT WIRE BEAM @ 40'
40 "C" VERTICAL `ala K2KQ (a no radial vertical)
20 - 10 TENNADYNE T10 LOG PERIODIC @ 40'
20 - 15 TA32 FIXED ON SOUTH AMERICA/CARRIBEAN @ 25'
I could not get the fixed 2 element beam to work on 10 meters but that was not a
problem. I found that except when 20 and 15 meters were at their performance
peak I needed to use the higher log periodic to be heard, so I used that more
than the lower yagi.
My 2 element wire beam for 40 worked very well into Europe. It must have some
gain since I worked every European I heard on the 1st call. The F/B was decent
since no one could hear me to the SW on Friday night/Saturday morning. When
Kurt, VP9/W6PH on Bermuda couldn't hear me I knew I had to put something else
up. I realized without another antenna I would be missing out on many mults from
SA/Carribean and South Pacific.
With no room for even another dipole to fill in the gaps I put up a "C" vertical
(check YCCC website for details www.yccc.org}. It worked like a charm, worked
everthing I heard with the exception of JA that were pretty weak here to start
with and they were all running KW. I even found a clear spot at 7158 and called
CQ with a listening freq under 7100 and had a VK and various South American
stations call me. This extremely simple antenna works very well.
160 meters had a few interesting moments - worked a DL running 60 watts and he
had a pileup on him.
I would have put in at least another 9 hours but a stomach bug hit me at 0700
local Sunday and took me out of the game until 1600 local on Sunday. This really
ticked me off as I had a run of Europeans going, all telling me I was 20 over 9
!!! A low power station can never hear that comment too often.
I had a good time in spite of declining conditions. It just makes me want to
improve my low band antennas to enhance my score. It may also be the time in the
cycle to purchase an amplifier to make things easier and fully enjoy the game.
Maybe next year it will be SOAB HP.
