Comments:

Given the poor conditions and after the first day, we were behind by a 1000 Q's
in the first 24 hours over last year's effort. Being close to the north pole
really takes it toll. Still managed a pull off a fun weekend with the prime 10
M op (K1EO) providing hours of continuous humor to the team! (Hey, what you
gonna do with the poor conditions!) Everything worked well with the exception of
a strange problem when 80 M transmits into the NE position of the 4 Square, the
160 M Alpha 89 amp (when it is connected to the 160 vertical) makes a terrible
noise (buzzing noise) I think due to the switching diodes being reversed biased
and making the relays go crazy. 80 M RF is coming down the 160 M line and
getting into the amp. Had to put in a less modern amp (AL-1200) to fix the
problem. Have seen this problem before and fixed it with 1/4 wave open coax
stubs (tuned to the offending frequency) but that did not work. With the new 20
M tower closer to the house, working Asia makes the 80 M computer monitor go
crazy - with change comes more exciting challenges!

Special thanks to Kurt, W6PH for making his way over to put in his 30 hours of
operating. He really enjoyed 20 M and for him, it was a first to bag the last
of the zones we needed for the sweep. He turned in the best QSO rates on the
band too! (Lucky he sat down when he did!) He went home (K1PH) both nights and
played on 80 and 40 M with a new special compact vertical and worked lots of
mults using S&P only. More on that later!

Interesting long path openings on various bands this time around. Was frustrated
with 9N7BCC on 40 M long path - but now understand he had local noise that
really killed things for him (and me!). Had no trouble working JT1 and BV long
path around the same time.

Thanks to my bride, Judy for keeping us all well fed and lots of coffee. She
ran the home theatre all weekend and our team was following along with the base
notes booming thru the floor! (Hard to follow the story line using this
technique, however) Lost power for about 10 minutes when a hair dryer got
plugged into a shared line with the shack - found the weak link!

See you next time, geez can it get worst as we go down the solar flux hole?
Good news here is when the conditions get bad, the gap between the big MM
stations and this place get much closer (instead of the usual 2X difference)!
Congrats to LPL, LR and XX for another outstanding performance!

73, Mark, K1RX
