Comments:
This is our best effort under some difficult conditions. We were short one
operator and had some really bad noise coming from a new development that is
under construction to our southeast. Ten meter scatter path was useless due to
the S-6 to S-7 noise. Thanks to Dave, our best band totals were on 20M. We
tried using a 2-radio setup on that band and Dave was assisted by Tom part of
the time. John did his usual outstanding job on 40M and he also sat in for me
for a few short spells on 15M. Ed and Tom handled 10M and 160M, while I did the
80M operating with a few hours of help from Dave. We had an unusual problem on
80M for 3 hours during prime time the second evening until we discovered that we
had the 4-V array on in the SW direction! That antenna doesn't come close to
the high rotary dipole into europe when it is beaming NE, so you can imagine how
poorly we did for those 3 hours. I suppose one never really finishes making the
station totally automatic. Next, we will install some sort of alerting
mechanism to make sure the proper antenna is connected.
Thanks to all those who had the patience to repeat their call and number for us.
Some of the signals were so weak that they were barely detectable. Thanks also
for all those QRP contacts. Under the conditions we had, it took an heroic
effort to operate QRP in this contest. Lastly, I want to thank my wife for once
again putting up with us crazy contesters for another multi-op weekend.
