Comments:
As a no-cw guy (mainly SSB, RTTY and PSK31) I thought it would be fun to try the
new HZ call sign and the low power - small antenna setup (100 Watts into a
Cushcraft R7)during the ARRL DX CW contest. Unfortunately, our weekend here in
HZ-land starts Thursday afternoon and ends Friday night (not very
contest-friendly). Therefore, you don't find very good band conditions any more
when you start operating after work. No 10m propagation at all, 20m was not good
any more after I had a couple of 15m qsos and 80m is not allowed in HZ. (Note:
there is no 6m, 30m and 80m. 160m is limited to 1810 - 1850 kHz. Max power = 200
Watts).
Anyway I enjoyed the time in the contest and I hope I will eventually improve my
cw.... I also hope that Thomas's call (SM0CXU - HZ1EX) and my call (DF1IK -
HZ1IK) did not confuse too many who had worked both of us.
