Another fun IARU contest.

I had not been on the HF bands since the WPX
SSB contest at the end of March. I did operate the ARRL
June VHF contest so I had some station changes to make
to get things back on the HF bands. I did this late friday
night and when I finally fired up the radios I was happy to find
the bands in fine shape - 20 meters sounded great - I worked
a many very strong European stations. But sadly it did not
last for the next 24 hours.

The day started off well as I was able to work fairly well
into Europe on 15 meters at the start but things faded as
the contest wore on. The low bands were quite good - with strong
signals and noise that was not as bad as past years. Europeans
came right back on 40 meters before my sunset and were loud and
easy to work on 80 meters. I have been unable to work Europe on 80
meters the last two years.

The only other downside was the air conditioner in my ham shack
was not cooling on friday night or during the contest. I was lucky
that the outside tempature was only in the low 90's during the day
on Saturday. Last week we were in the low 100's a few days.

The ham shack tempature started and ended the contest
at about 80 F and spent alot of time above 90 F. It was about 98 or 99 F
for hours. Everything was hot - the table, the chair, me, the radios
and the amps. I am amazed that the amps did not melt.

Lots of numbers......
