Conditions better than last year on 20M and 40M, way down on 80M and 10M where I
was barely able to work anyone.

Ended up working a few hours at a time. With the complex exchange and necessary
focus, I felt more tired than usual. Despite taking several naps and only being
in the chair a total of 14 hours or so, after the contest I feel exhausted....
Perhaps latent effects from a bout of flu two weeks ago.

Had a good time with solid conditions on the three money bands (40,20,15) but
fell short of beating last year's totals (580Qs, 80 sweep, 92,000 points).
Missed 7 mults this time, including four that I thought would be easier mults --
PAC, DE, ID, WY. Others missed were AB, NL and QC, which were tough last year as
well. I heard VO1MP once on 15 but he was gone and never heard him again.
Likewise with a KH6. No DE, ID, AB, QC or WY heard at all.

Activity seemed pretty strong, especially when everyone crowded onto 40M for the
final three hours. Had a blast there, when I was able to squeeze in. 0100z to
0230z were surprisingly productive for me.

After working VE7CC (thanks for the VE7 mult!) and seeing his A total with five
or six hours to go, I thought I may as well turn on the Telnet window and run
Unlimited, maybe close in on a sweep at least. Tried to do that, but the server
wouldn't properly process my login so I ended up not receiving any spots and
turned it off. Stayed in the A category after all. Don't think it would have
helped much late in the game anyway.

Must say a special thank you to J VY1JA for calling me on Sunday afternoon. I
had the beam pointed west to see if I could pick up a KH6 (I didn't), but I
ended up working a lot of stations off the back of the beam, including J who was
S9+ here. With keystone NWT in place, a sweep suddenly becomes a possibility.
Well, then there's Newfoundland. And Wyoming. Oh, and Quebec and (this year)
Delaware. And Hawaii. Sheesh. Great job if you managed a sweep this year.

Found VI and PR easily on 15M Saturday afternoon, both loud and just a few KCs
apart. NNY was rare here, with a call coming in late Sunday afternoon after
searching all day for it.

Almost doubled the 20 and 40 Q totals over last year, so that's a good sign that
the antennas are ready for CQWW. Tried my 40M vertical Moxon but with
compromised height (sloping, not vertical) it's a dog, unfortunately. The pair
of 40M delta loops are working out well for NA.

Noise was horrible on 80M this weekend. In the Friday night NCCC practice 80M
was great here. The lads in CA were having trouble hearing one another on the
post-practice net up the band, but I heard 'em all just fine. Guess the weekend
was my turn for lousy 80M conditions. Hope 80M is stronger in a couple weeks.
Maybe the global jolt of RF will open everything up.
