Conditions were less than favorable this past weekend....what an
understatement.....condx were terrible. During the first few hours could not
buy a run at all so did almost all S&P. Friday night the QRN level was about
normal for this region, S5 to S7 with some S9 crashes. But it was obvious there
was noise in N.A. Heard a few EU stations coming through at the start but then
nothing till the approach of EU sunrise. And the opening seemed to be
spotlight, favoring Eastern EU. Kept at it until local sunrise.
Saturday evening the noise had escalated to S9 to S9+15 on crashes. Again, was
unable to generate any meaningful runs. K5ZD reported a high noise level in New
England which I assume was fairly widespread. Spent much of the time again in
S&P mode hoping to find a few more multipliers. Heard several I could not work.
Sigh.
By 2 a.m. local time I had enough of battling the noise and poor conditions and
pulled the plug. Disappointed conditions had taken such a nose dive after a
week of great opennings and low noise levels. Score down nearly 40% compared to
last year.

John W2GD/P40W
