Comments:
ZL wintertime condx: not a squeak on 10 m - not even NA, no KH6 beacon! An
extremely weak 15 m short path the 2nd night, but only 4O5A worked. A brief
sunrise window on 80 occurred the second morning with Eu ops seemingly hampered
by QRN...it was a dog's breakfast. In hindsight, a search and dodge strategy may
have worked better.
Clearly, 40 m was the best band to work Europe on. No QRN, booming signals from
most big Eu contest stations and several QRP ops worked. Second choice was 20 m
- good for QTCs - which stayed open long path right through daylight, except
for a few hours around midday. Both bands were pretty much dry by the end of
the contest.
Things I like about the WAE-CW: unlike world-wide contests, there is a bit more
space on the bands, making it far easier to hold a run-QRG. And the QTCs keep
thing interesting at the end. Great job by Eu QTC-takers, there are some truly
amazing CW ops out there. Not so great: giving the callsign twice, producing a
collision on the 2nd. Please do this only when chasing DX :-)
Equipment used: FT1000MP, amp and assorted Vee Beams (40/20/15), a rhombic (80)
and a 5 el. mono-band yagi (20 LP). Thanks for working us. ZL6QH QSL via
