Comments:
Between the lack of sporadic-E on 6 meters and equipment problems this
contest was a real struggle. The SO2R setup was a big help in keeping
up with the locals who would show up on 6 or 2 meters to "hand out a
few points". Moving those guys through the bands made my score a lot
bigger than it could have been. The XV222 transmit section was only
putting out milliwatts but I still was able to complete QSOs with big-
gun locals AA7A and KE7NR on 222. Couldn't figure out what was wrong
with it since it worked fine when I tested it the day before the contest.
Made the most 432 Qs ever in this contest, which put it second only to
6 in terms of QSO points. 6 meters opened exactly 4 times over the 2 days
for a total time of less than a hour. It opened within the last 5 minutes
of the contest to the EM45 area during which I made two Qs and got 2 new
mults. I pulled the plug at 0300 since I didn't want to know if it stayed
open after that! Result is the lowest SO Portable score in the six years
that I have competed in this category since 2001.
