Comments:
Awful S9 line noise prevented January VHF SS operation, and it was almost the
same in June. After 12 power poles were quieted this spring, a pole with loose
hardware only 100 yards away acted up a week before the contest. Result was S9+
line noise on 6 and 2. Thanks to Duke Energy's excellent RFI man, Jeff Hardin,
and trips from the Duke Energy crew, both Wednesday and Thursday, I was able to
operate with minimal line noise. Didn't make any skeds because of the
uncertainty. Every thing worked entire test except 903 which was DOA after
hours of attempted troubleshooting.
With exciting 6M Es most of the time, contacts were down on the higher bands
which were pretty flat. Thanks to W4DEX and W4WA for the 6 band sweep.
Highlights were working KA1ZE FN01 (where were the other PA stations?) on 6-432
and working K8GP on 1296 with my 10 watts. Thank you for your patience, Gene!
Apologize for not following the regional rovers closely (you are appreciated,
and September will be different!). Six was just too good to leave for the
higher bands most of the time. That probably cost me some 2 meter Es. Oh well.
Thanks for all the Qs. Hope everyone had as much fun as I did. See you in the
CQWW VHF, UHF test, and in September!
