Comments:
A new all time high score for us from DM14 even though the 6M opening emptied
all of the higher bands on Sunday making the contest very one-dimensional from
a multi-op and multi-band point of view at the end.
This 6 meter opening seemed to initially be centered on Nothern Iowa/Minnesota
- also the location of the first station worked via Es in the morning. But
true to 6m Es, this year as well as in 2006, there was an imaginary N-S line
cutting off any station east of ~EM3X to EN3X for us. About the only exception
was Florida, one or two southern GA/SC stations, and one or two Northeastern
stations. Most of the EM grid was non existant for us both years. Shorter
skip was generally found for the more southern stations and I think that brougt
FL within range for the multi-hop. Although, compared with 2006, the ceneter of
activity was to the northern rather than south central plains and midwest.
Sunday evening brought good runs into PNW with very strong signals. Overall,
with very similar efforts and the same equipment both years, the 2006 opening
was slightly better for us giving 545/146.
Even so we were very glad to stay busy the entire weekend!
73, Dave K0DI
