Comments:
Thanks for all the QSOs. Overall a lot of fun.
"Overall" is the word as during the middle part it was not as much fun as last
year. Last year 15 m was open to Europe from the East Coast of USA. This year
there was a few Europeans heard. Fifteen meters in 2008 produced 430 QSOs.
When 15 didn't open on Sat., being able to equal or come close to last year's
score, much less do better, was not looking very good. Sunday morning, the
same condition on 15 m. The only chance to make up for the lack of 15 m points
was to see if additional multipliers could be obtained. As it turned out there
was great turn out and a number of unique prefixes. Even though ended up 130
fewer QSOs, 41 more prefixes were worked. Bottom line: ~275K more points this
year than last! Yes, I was surprised.
Eighty was quite and forty was okay until at the end of the Contest when it
seemed to have more noise than normal or heard the last couple of days. Twenty
was good as usual.
Operator error was the major problem in the shack. On Sunday morning (LT) 20 m
was not doing very well and had a difficult time working the few Europeans
stations spotted on 15 m. Turned out I had set the SteppIR ant. for reverse
direction the evening before and forgot to return to normal. The rotor
indicator showed it pointed in the correct direction. The stations I was able
to worked were off the back of the ant.
