Comments:
Well, this one stunk! Been a bad news/good news week, more bad than good.
Bad - high winds (60 -75 mph) last week toppled the tree supporting the center
balun of my Carolina Windom 160.
Good - despite days of additional high winds the antenna somehow survived the
incident undamaged!
Bad - the coax feedline got trapped in a hollow of the stump.
Good - my trusty chain saw was able to free the entrapped coax undamaged.
Bad - after cutting the downed tree up into firewood I wrenched my back lifting
the pieces into my pickup bed.
Bad - a second wind storm broke the coax hanging from the feed point of the
swaying antenna.
Good - the coax broke right at the PL259 connector and was easily replaced. No
other damage to the coax.
Good - got some new lift lines up into another nearby tree and repositioned the
Windom so it was back in business!
Bad - managed to catch a cold doing all the outside work one day befoe the
start of the contest.
Bad - back pain made sitting in the chair for lengthy periods difficult.
Stuffed sinuses and plugged ears made operating difficult. Couldn't get my
head into the contest no matter what. All S&P and had difficulty copying many
of them.
Hope things are better for the SS SSB contest and the CQWW CQ contest at the
end of the month.
