Comments:
I decided to break from the past routine and go HP this time to hopefully make
it easier to work a sweep (without any assistance). K3 driving an AL-811H at
about 600 watts. Sixty-two percent of QSOs were via CQs.
One station told me that my signal sounded "chirpy." I have had a few similar
comments in previous contests when using the K3 only. Did anyone reading this
summary, and that worked/heard my signals, notice that my signal sounded
"chirpy?" If so, please tell me via e-mail (K9MMS@arrl.net or
K9MMS@comcast.net). I hope my (twice-repaired) K3 does not have more problems.
It has been OK since its second repair in July of this year.
Foiled again on getting a sweep. It has now been a few years since my last
sweep. I worked multiples of a few of the rare mults, and VE8EV was easy to
find and work (Thank you). This time, I missed NL. I worked 76 mults the
first day. On day two, I wasted hours, off and on, tuning for the last four
mults -- especially the elusive last one -- NL. I heard VO1BQ once when he was
S&P on 15 meters and then he vanished. I did not find VO1MP until around 0030Z,
near the end of the contest, on 80 meters. The pile up was huge, he complained
about LID callers, and he left only a few minutes after I found him. I kept
checking other bands, but I never heard him again. I gave up the last hour and
just called CQ. Bah humbug!!
Saturday, when I went to 40 meters, I suddenly had intermittent RFI problems
with the paddle, keyboard, and keying lock-up. I tried several snap-on chokes
on various cables with little success. I finally shut down, minimized the
rat's nest of cables, and swapped some cables -- problem finally solved. My
apologies to stations that only heard gibberish or stuck-key-down during some
of my attempted fills, etc. (AL9A, Gary, I know you were one of the "victims"
-- sorry for that.)
Thanks for the Qs and Ms.
73,
Gary
