Comments:
After a slow start had a few good runs but I have to say it became a drag. Next
year I'll maybe do the first 10 hours and then move on. Although I had a great
first hour last year staying on one frequency on 20, I perhaps should have done
what my good friend Dan Street (K1TO) used to tell me; at the start of the
contest everyone is a new contact so sweep the bands dropping your call on at
every opportunity, even if you havent heard the stations call yet, and Work 'Em
Fast.
As usual, I couldn't sleep before the start or during my off time. I was
thinking of throwing in the towel Sunday afternoon, but always like to at least
get a sweep, and only needed NL. I spent alot of time looking for one to no
avail, until at about 2300. I changed bands and there on the bottom of 40 was
VO1DD who was not in the contest! I persuaded him to give me the exchange
info, with Sean standing by at W1AW. I dont know if Sean (KX9X) needed the mult
but VO1DD either couldn't hear his QRP signal or he decided he had enough
contesting. I pulled the switch shortly after completing the sweep, with 3
hours op time left. I had two or more of every section but NL. VE8EV was in
the log early, VY1EI later, and even heard VY1EI Cqing on 15 with no takers.
