Comments:
This effort started out as another attempt to break my 160 SOSB QRP record for
zone 3. As Friday evening crawled by with only one zero point Q and hearing
lots of DX CQ in my face I decided to try to work 40 meter SB at the same time.
After a less than brilliant first night of dual single band work I then decided
a few passes through the other bands were necessary in case neither of the
single band scores were high enough to break the current zone 3 records. The
Outlaws club score needed feeding in that case ;>)
It seemed an attenuation curtain hung between me and most of Europe on 40 for
the whole contest. The exception was the Iberian peninsula. I suspect it was
QRM levels more than propagation differences since there were lots of loud
European stations heard here at various times and worked occasionally. For
instance zone 17 and 18 were both worked but no zone 16. All of these zones
are polar paths from here. When Sunday morning rolled around and it was clear
that neither record was in danger a race for maximum multiplier count on the
upper bands was on. After a couple hour break for a late lunch and shopping
the last hour yielded 36 Q's on 20; a third of the total on that band. Guess I
could have done better ;>) Thanks for the fun. See you next weekend in the
ARRL 160 contest.
