Comments:
A fun weekend was somewhat ruined by antenna failures- in four separate trips to
Vermont we could not fix the the big Optibeam 4 element 40 antenna destroyed in
the ice storm last winter. To make matter worse, a sizeable storm hit us Friday
night ( 5 inches of snow ) and high winds made the remaining low band antennas
to act up intermittently. Our crew worked through all of these problems and
came up with a respectable score.
One interesting observation was the BUSTFEST on the packet clusters. Had never
seen so many calls posted in error. At one point Sunday afternoon I counted 11
of 19 calls busted ( that's 60 % man!) such as VV47NT, DAL1A, etc. But the real
winner was the call of EC6TK on 7099 kHz- DOUBLE BUSTED as EK6TK and EC6TKT by
some leftover turkeys.
It is not a unique phenomenon, however, in the US - we were spotted somewhere
in Europe as K3LE, which prompted about a dozen calls - all dupes of course and
a big waste of time. Oh well, you can't win'em all..
Tnx to all - especially those who can still copy calls correctly..
