Comments:
What a difference 9 years makes! When I was in PJ2 for WAE CW in 2002, I had
1409 QSOs and only 58 on 10 meters. This year, I actually had more QSOs on 15
than 20!
I gambled a bit on off-times. I was planning to take a few hours off Saturday
afternoon, but the rates were good and 10 was open so I stayed on the air. I
ran out of steam Saturday night - I wish I could have operated another hour or
so.
I also stayed up later than planned Friday night. 80 was much better here
Friday so that paid off. I missed much of the 10 meter opening Sunday since I
took the extra off-time when things slowed down Sunday afternoon.
I was working so many very weak stations with single-digit serial numbers that
I fell behind on QTC's. I made up a couple hundred on Sunday but still ended
up with about 150 unsent.
I had two successful moves from 40 to 80 in the last hour of the contest.
These usually don't work for me but this time I got two extra "4-point"
multipliers! :-)
The PJ2T station has a new European tribander located on the ridge which plays
VERY WELL on 20-10 and a European beverage which really helped the 80 meter
totals.
And, the bedrooms have AIR CONDITIONING for use at night. WONDERFUL! (The
shack has AC too but I didn't use it. I should have Saturday when I got hot
but didn't - I think that's why I ran out of steam... :-) ). The only
"station" problem I had was that the kitchen sink faucet leaks! Geoff Howard
and the PJ2T team have done a GREAT job building a reliable station under
difficult circumstances.
We've really enjoyed our vacation in paradise!
The claimed score would be a new South American record.
