I'd hoped to put more time in this one, and help out at W3DQ, but family
realities meant I spent more time in my car this weekend than in the shack.
Mostly was able to sneak into the basement in a lot of 15-30 minute spurts.
Never got on during a period where band conditions seemed very good - lots of M
class flares hitting. Even my post age 50 middle of the night wake ups didn't
hit 160/80/40 where anything exciting was happening.
Using the skimmer network in CW contests sort of spoils you for assisted
operating. Using the global human cluster feed for SSB brought back lots of
busted spots (ES7DX, S04M, etc) and the lower spot volume overall meant many
mults were to be found by good old fashioned knob twisting. Plus, when clicking
on the N1MM available mult window, I kept running into (and losing out to) N3RR,
W3EKT and K5WAF who were apparently doing the same thing. So ended up not using
the spotting very much - I probably made as many spots as I actually clicked
on.
