Comments:
As I reached to turn on the amps about 15 minutes before the contest I noticed a
note on the Alpha 9500 that its fan was malfunctioning. I made a quick decision
that I was better off just using a single radio than trying to do SO2R with low
power on one of the radios, mainly because I've never been very successful with
SO2R in Sprints anyway. One radio, two band changes.
I also discovered that the 4-element 40-meter beam wasn't available so I ended
up using an inverted vee for 40. This probably cost me a few Q's on 40 that I
would have made with the Yagi.
I tried to split time evenly between the 3 bands but in retrospect I probably
should have stayed on 20 and 40 for 5 to 10 minutes more. On 80 there were a
few weak signals heard from the east coast but many of the unworked callsigns I
heard in the first half of a couplet were not heard in the second half.
I heard a VE6 and KY once each in the wrong sequence. Those were the only
mults I heard and didn't work. Never heard AR - I think he was on 40 after I'd
gone to 80.
73,
-Mike, N7MH
