Comments:
Sent Prec "M" (and adhered to band change rules) because I expected two newbie
helpers might come Sunday toward end of 'Test. They did not make it, so I
wound up being Single-Op.
My first big effort in SS SSB in over 30 years. Many thanks to W3LPL for the
hand-me-down CT-DOS computer with the K1EA DVP and matching cable.
I know so little about operating 'phone that I had to put up a chart of the
band allocations so I would know where to look for QSOs. My 'phone copying
skills improved in this 'Test so that by the end I was acceptable. Still, I
think my LCR will be embarassing. I just hope I don't get DQ'd for excessive
score reduction (HI).
Not having any 'phone experience, I can't say if the differences in band-QSO
breakdown from SS CW come from propagation, or from bigger disadvantage of Low
Pwr on 'Phone, or from differences in population densities. I did have a
harder time getting thru pileups than I did on CW. And even though
(NON-ASSISTED) sweep is easier on SSB, I'm delighted to get one from what my
wife calls "your little station" -- TS-850SAT and a 200-ft dipole in the trees,
about 55-ft up (improved just before SSCW).
Only laugh in this one: hearing K4XS send a report, "(NR) xxx BRAVO K H... uh,
I mean K 4 XS...." I guess even Bill gets punchy.
