Comments:
I think K7RF (Oregon) and I had very much the same experience with our similar
antennas and Northwest locations. We even shared the same highlight: VP8NO
called in on 40M at 1050z.
This far north, only the KW + big antenna European stations were workable on
40, 20 and 15M. Nothing heard anywhere on 10M, and I listened often.
Score is way down from recent years, and my worst high-power attempt yet. Who
ever thought solar max would look like this?
Thursday evening prior to the contest, I had an opportunity to join a UBC
alumni visit to the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory near Penticton,
BC. I met Dr. Ken Tapping, director of the solar flux monitoring program, and
thanked him for the work he does. It was very neat to stand under the small
antenna that gathers the 10.7-cm signals, knowing how important those data are.
