Comments:
Can conditions get any better??? Due to family commitments and the XYL birthday
(which seems to almost always fall on CQWW SSB weekend) my time in the chair
was very limited. The rest of the crew sure picked up the stick and ran. Most
of the usual crew along with new comer K1RAX kept the seats filled.
Conditions were unreal on 10M. I can remember one contest where we made more
than 1200 QSOs on 10M but it has been a long time since the band has been this
good. Still antenna repairs to make which includes the top 20M antenna
direction indicating and pinning. The middle 15M antenna also needs correction.
We still are in the process of automating antenna selection so wires look like
a piles of snakes!
Failures on one of the FT-1000s, Stack Match Control Box and also the HF
Commander amp slowed us down but K1RAX went home for his MP and W1UJ went home
and rewound the plate choke for the amp. Back at full throttle!
It is always a good time when we get together. Again we beat last year’s
score which is always a goal and probably came close if not better than best
score ever in this contest.
First Star goes to W1UJ for the repairs, operating, and taking the helm while I
was busy away.
Second Star goes to K1RAX for his first full time effort on SSB which we dearly
need help as most of us do not like SSB.
Third Star goes to the the crew in general. NB1U (always the junkyard dog on
the crowded bands), NR1X unending CQing and running and having runs of 9/minute
on 10M, KM1X for the overnight help, and K1EBY for helping on a mode where he
rather have pointed stick in the eye than operate.
We may need more beds as Nemo the dog wants his own now rather than share with
Frank his owner!
