Comments:
I did not think I would get to operate much in this one. With Valentine's Day on
Saturday and it being the weekend before Mardi Gras, there was too much going
on. I decided it was more important to spend time with the XYL on Saturday than
to sit in front of the radio when it was sunny and in the mid 70s outside.
Despite not putting in a full effort, I still managed to come away with a
respectable score and only 300k off last year's NA record-setting effort. So in
that, I'm very pleased with the way things turned out.
Ten meters seemed in excellent shape and I'm sure the low A and K indices had a
lot to do with it as the solar flux was only 120 the entire weekend. When the A
index jumped to 10 toward the end of the contest, I could tell conditions were
not as good as they had been. But by then, the contest was nearly over so it
didn't have a big impact.
I'm not a big fan of the double points rule for 40 and 80 meters so I think
this contest will always be a single-band effort for me on whatever high band
is open.
I had a lot of fun this weekend and it wasn't just in the contest.
73, Don AA5AU
